For "op hoge poten," how about "draw oneself up"?

She drew herself up and went to complain.

I only know the full idiom "to draw yourself up to your full height", but I see online that Americans also shorten it to "to draw yourself up".

I would take your sentence to mean that she made herself seem more imposing before going to complain, which is not quite the same thing, I think. I'd be interested to hear an American opinion, though!

If I heard someone spotted a mew, I'd have assumed they were talking about the Pokรฉmon Mew! Which would've been pretty impressive too, haha.

Haha, love it! I'm just too old to have watched Pokรฉmon, but my son is 7, so I think I'll probably know all about them within a few years ;-)

My brother claimed to know two kinds of birds. Pigeons, and not pigeons. As in:

"What kind of bird is that?"

"Dunno, it's not a pigeon".
