Ha! Great to be reminded of this. After writing the newsletter I learned what had happened: the director decided to extensively edit the scene without taking the Dutch lines into account. As he doesn't speak Dutch, the result was just an incomprehensible jumble.
Correction: Hoytema has been in The Netherlands within 20 years. I had the chance of talking with him in Emmeloord during their recordings of Dunkirk at Urk.

One note regarding Van Hoytemaβs Dutch pronunciation, from this clip itβs clear he speaks standard Dutch without any obvious accent:
